Students and Teachers Join Disaster Preparedness Session Led by BPBD Karangasem

 


KARANGASEM — The non-physical activities of the TMMD (TNI Manunggal Membangun Desa) 128th Program carried out by Kodim 1623/Karangasem continue to deliver tangible benefits to the community. One of these activities was a natural disaster preparedness counseling session held at SDN 7 Pempatan, Pempatan Village, Rendang District, Karangasem Regency, attended by Pempatan Village officials, teachers, and 70 students on Monday (May 12, 2026).


This activity aimed to improve the preparedness and mitigation capabilities of the target village community in facing potential natural disasters. The disaster preparedness counseling was part of the TMMD 128th program series, which emphasizes human resource development. In its implementation, Kodim 1623/Karangasem collaborated with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to provide comprehensive education to the community, ranging from recognizing types of disasters to initial response measures.


The resource person from BPBD, Acting Head of BPBD Karangasem Regency, Ida Ketut Arimbawa, S.Sos., M.Si, delivered material on self-evacuation procedures, early warning signs, and disaster risk reduction efforts. He emphasized the importance of active community participation in understanding potential threats in their surroundings so they can act quickly and appropriately when disasters occur. With adequate knowledge, residents are expected to minimize the impacts and losses caused by disasters.


The TMMD 128th Task Force Commander of Kodim 1623/Karangasem, Lt. Col. Inf. Gurbasa Samosir, stated that non-physical activities such as disaster preparedness counseling play a strategic role in supporting regional resilience. According to him, physical development must be balanced with increased public awareness and knowledge so that the results of TMMD can be felt sustainably.


Through this counseling activity, the TMMD 128th Task Force of Kodim 1623/Karangasem hopes to create a resilient, alert, and well-prepared Pempatan Village community in facing various potential natural disasters. The synergy between the TNI, BPBD, and the community is the key to creating a safe village environment with strong resilience against disaster risks. (*)
